Extended story: overseas travel claims at a regional retailer
A Hong Kong retailer with shops across southern China asked for a compliance audit covering Q3 overseas travel and lodging only. The policy allowed business-class flights above eight hours with director approval; practice showed several six-hour routes booked in business class with approval emails sent after the ticket was issued.
Cloudapi Pro sampled 120 travel claims. Thirty-one failed the timing rule for approval; nine lacked itemised hotel folios required above HK$2,000 per night. Estimated exposure on the timing failures alone exceeded HK$180,000 in fare differentials. Management accepted twenty-eight of the thirty-one timing exceptions and asked for a follow-up sample six months later after a new approval workflow went live.
The engagement did not review local taxi claims or staff entertainment — those remained out of scope by design.
